Preamble to the United States Constitution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
To all who use the general welfare "clause"(its in the Preamble..not the legislation itself..) as a weapon to justify single payer health care, why didnt they write "provide for the common defense AND the general welfare" ...if thats what they really meant? Why did they use the word promote instead?
